“…don’t lock the-”
Clicked.
“-suitcase!”
Sometimes I really want to face palm myself.
I should have known that once I pushed those zippers down the lock there was no way I was going to open it back up without those slippery three digits combination code. Because I should have known that my mom – who lent me this gigantic Samsonite luggage – would never remember the original combination she had set. Because she can’t even remember her own apple ID password.
But no worries guys! The internet has never failed me.
After scouring google for approximately 2 minutes, and 10 more trying out the method, I finally cracked the lock!
And I really, really want to share it to you guys (LIFE HACK #1), even though this topic has nothing to do with the original purpose of my blog, because…well isn’t it such a thrill when you successfully did something using an unorthodox method?!
Here it is, if you have a Samsonite lock that looks like this, or any TSA lock that has the same design, I’m sure it will work:
What you’ll need:
- A flashlight
- A magnifying glass (optional, but if you don’t have good eyesight it is advisable)
The Method:
- Start with the first digit. Aim the flashlight into the slight gap on the right of the wheel and you should see a glint of smooth metal. Rotate until the smooth metal changes to a bumpy one and leave it there. You should write down the number.
- Continue with the other 2 digits until all the wheels have the bumpy/notch metal side facing up.
- Push the lock and Viola! It should open right up.
- OR if it doesn’t, do this: look at all the digits and plus or minus 5 off of each one. +5 if the digit is below 5, and -5 if the digit is above 5.
Example: if 381 does not open,
3 + 5 = 8
8 – 5 = 3
1 + 5 = 6
Therefore, the combination is 836.
If the lock still won’t open, I’ve got nothing. Take it to the locksmith.
Despite the rush I got out of being able to solve one less mystery in life, and feeling cool about it though, I still can’t help but wonder..
If I can crack a locked suitcase as easily in 12 minutes, then what about others?!
How is this supposed to make you feel safe from theft?!
That’s it from me today.
Thanks for reading, and until next time xx

Thank you Ramida 78, for helping me crack the TSA lock on a brand new suitcase on which the button popped out before I had completed setting the combo, leaving me in limbo the day before leaving for Vietnam.

Ha ha, I have lost so many locks to this luckily I don’t get suitcases with them built in so I just get the cut off. Bye bye lock. Well done on cracking it open.

Yes! I’ve been sleeping at 3am and waking up at 6am for no reason, my sleep pattern is horrible lol.

Oh, it might be because of place change? I hope you would soon get adapted. You can try “binaural beats”. Try delta ones online. They help sleep peacefully 🙂 🙂

Binaural beats?? Okay I’m gonna try searching for it, thanks for the suggestion!

“Delta” will help sleep. “Theta” relax. “Alpha” create. “Beta” activity. Let me know if you have any difficulty. Use headphones, close eyes and relax 🙂 🙂

hi Ramida,
I HAD to come check out this blog post because of your intriguing title you left on the Alumni page. You actually reminded me of Terry Pratchett and the infamous luggage… it also doesn’t behave
you are right it is concerning that the internet can show you how to open a suitcase in 2min. Am I the only one who prays that the average criminal can’t read and never has data on their phone (for googling?)….
wait did you paint that picture? its beautiful!!

I pray for that too, and yes I did paint it, thanks :D. I haven’t read any books by Terry Pratchett, but have heard so much about him. Need to check it out now!

Hi, this method in my case did not work. But I resolved it in any case.
After you found the first possible combination you have to try all the ten combinations with the same alignment of the wheels, so, if the first combination is 075 and it does not work, you have to sum 1 to each digit for every attempt: 186, 297, 308, 419, 520, 631, 742, 853, 964.
In my case 308 was the right one.

This saved my life!!! Thank you!!
Although with my luggage, the rough steel sections had to be lined up at the back of the combo not the front ☺️✔️
